Technical Support Engineer - Instrumentation and Communications in Leicestershire
Our client is a leader in the development, manufacture and supply of a range of scientific measurement and control instrumentation for use in a variety of sectors such as meteorology, water, environmental, energy, infrastructure and gas monitoring. Due to continued strong growth they now require a Technical Support and Projects Engineer to provide high quality and responsive technical support to both external and internal customers and stakeholders, who is also responsible for the management and delivery of small to medium sized software and\or hardware installation projects that are a combination of design, programming, testing, documentation, training and installation.
Duties will include:
Deliver high quality and responsive technical support for hardware and software to a variety of customers and stakeholders.
Troubleshoot a variety of communication methods and protocols such as ethernet, serial, satellite, radio and cellular.
Identify when support is required to turn in to a commercial transaction and be able to recommend and quote for programming, instrument or system upgrade or continued consultancy.
Provide pre-sales technical support for sales engineers including but not limited to product recommendations, program solutions and system design.
Manage, execute and deliver profitable and on-time, small to medium sized projects that could include a combination of design, program, build, test, document, install and sign off phases.
Support sales in the review and writing of tenders for hardware and software technical compliance.
Write, test and install, complex datalogger programs.
Create, develop, update and deliver training courses for customers.
Assist R&D with the evaluation and testing of new products as required.
Provide technical and manufacturing information to production teams, where necessary for the completion of orders, including non-standard products and services.
Deliver on-site installation or upgrade services inclusive of hardware and software installation.
Travel away on business when required, including overnight stops in the UK and overseas.
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science or related technical subject.
Technical background and experience in working with instrumentation, communication and networking protocols.
An interest in computer programming (Basic, C or related) and some experience in this area an advantage.
Strong customer focus and ability to develop and maintain professional and commercial relationships.
Excellent communication skills.
Hold a ‘can-do’ and positive attitude and is innovative and creative in searching for better ways to do things.
Ability to give instructions and relay complex information, to a non-technical audience.
Full clean Driving Licence essential.
Project management qualification such as PRINCE2, PMP, AGILE.
Experience of delivering projects within an agreed time frame.
Commercial experience in sales and or sales administration.
Formal programming qualifications.
