Synthesis & Materials Chemist - Senior in Cambridgeshire

To identify, define and evaluate new research themes and projects.  To synthesise and deliver novel materials to demonstrate the technical viability of proposed projects as part of feasibility studies.


Design, synthesis and delivery of novel materials to meet technical performance requirements. Produce proposals in order to adapt and improve materials according to performance and specification requirements.

Design and present project proposals with sound assessments of technical viability and business case.

QC modelling activities using available software packages in support of projects across all teams where required. Provide input and recommendations on validity and utility of modelled data to assist in materials development. 

Assist other chemists with synthetic routes and material design to meet the technical needs of their projects. Provide input based on both technical and health and safety aspects.


Assessment of research areas outside previous experience; preparation of briefing documents to communicate current status, on-going research, possible opportunities, market and competitors.

Identification of IP, filing of invention disclosures, and providing feedback to ensure high quality patent applications.


Strong track record of effective material and synthesis design coupled with successful material delivery to meet technical requirements in more than one area of materials research.

Strong scientific record. Will hold a PhD in Chemistry or a degree in Chemistry with equivalent work experience in research of advanced material design and synthesis.

Understand the value of, and have experience of generating IP with the ability to manage IP appropriately, including working with others to file invention disclosures in a timely fashion.

Competent user of quantum chemical modelling packages including an ability to interpret results and provide recommendations for effective material design work.
