R&D Laboratory Manager – Hydrocarbon Recovery

Our client is an exciting start-up company developing a unique technology for the recovery of clean hydrocarbons from waste feedstocks using a low energy / low emission process. 

They now require a Research, Development & Commercialisation Laboratory Manager to expand and operate the in-house lab supporting the operation of the company’s Pilot Plant Unit with the testing / analysis of key potential feedstocks such as used oils, industrial rubber and used plastics, as well as the products derived from the Pilot Unit operation. 

You will be directly involved in a variety of laboratory investigations based around a unique Fast Electrochemical Process (FEP) which can include sampling, testing, measuring, recording, and analysing results. Your job is to provide all the required laboratory and technical support to enable the pilot unit to function effectively, while adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines. 

This work will assist in the further development of a new and advanced patented process which recovers hydrocarbons from various raw materials and converts them into a range of valuable chemical distillates to produce new plastics for chemical refineries or clean low sulphur marine fuels and refinery grade Naphtha. 

Qualifications and Skills: 

Degree or PhD in Chemistry / Organic Chemistry preferably, or another related subject such as Materials Science.

Extensive hydrocarbon experience gained during lab testing, pilot plant testing or similar, or possibly refinery and downstream petrochemical processes development.

Knowledge or experience with analytical techniques such as GC, GC-VuV, XRF and spectroscopy.

The ability to learn specific, practical techniques and apply this knowledge to solve technical problems.

Experience maintaining and calibrating technical equipment.

Project management and time management skills to enable project delivery within set timescales.

Flexibility in order to work with, and provide support for, a number of people.

Experience delivering demonstrations and writing technical reports.

You will also need excellent record-keeping skills, as well as good maths and computer literacy and competency.
