R&D Chemist - Polymer Bead Synthesis for SPPS in Wales South
R&D Chemist – Polymer Synthesis
Our client is a global leader in the use of resin technology for pharmaceutical applications such as active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients and water treatment media, extraction and purification of enzymes, hormones, alkaloids, viruses, antibiotics, and treatment of fermentation products.
They are seeking a Research & Development Chemist to join their team to devise and formulate new polymer bead resin products. You will also work as part of a team to develop more efficient production procedures for scale up of resin products to plant manufacturing and perform process investigations to improve existing process efficiency and to develop new processes where necessary.
PhD in synthetic chemistry - organic/inorganic or ideally polymer chemistry.
Knowledge or experience of synthesis and associated analytical techniques, preferably related to polymers/polymer bead products.
At least two years’ experience in a research and development or scientifically related field, preferably within an industrial setting.
Experience of chemical manipulation and performing synthetic reactions, including functional group transformation, would be advantageous.
Experience of polymer bead preparation and activation techniques highly desirable.
Knowledge of polymer bead analytical techniques such as particle size analysis, capacity measurements and porosity characterisation.
Experience of scaling up processes from laboratory to pilot and/or to full scale manufacturing plant.
Specific experience relating to Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis (SPPS) polymer bead preparation and functional group transformation to generate Merrifield/Aminomethyl/CTC/MBHA/Wang type resins and background knowledge of SPPS resins used in peptide synthesis applications would be beneficial.
