Food Scientist for Marketing / Admin role in Gloucestershire

This is a great opportunity to join an enthusiastic, friendly, supportive and multi-disciplinary team responsible for promoting and communicating our science and technology to members and other existing and potential clients.  We do this through a range of communications channels and activities including:

The development and maintenance of the corporate and other websites and related electronic communications

Design and production of newsletters, brochures, leaflets, posters and related materials

Production of audio and video content

Management of the company’s social media presence

Campaigns to promote designated aspects of our services and research activities

Coordination of the work of our 13 Member Interest Groups (MIGs) 

Provision of an in-house, centralised digital print facility

Management of specialist suppliers such as PR, marketing and communications agencies

Handling of media enquiries.

We also play a significant role in internal communications in the business - promoting awareness of business and other developments – for example, through our Intranet i-comm.

Duties and responsibilities:

The main aim of the role is to deliver optimal benefits for members through the industrial Member Interest Groups whilst maximising the opportunities the system presents for new business development.  The job holder will play a major role in ensuring a MIG environment for our client to identify and exploit commercial opportunities. In specific term, the aims of the role are:

To act as ‘Technical Secretary’ to each of the 12 MIGs and the MIG Activities Working Group (50%)

To build and sustain attendance at MIGs - in line with agreed objectives - through appropriate marketing and communications activities (10%)

To develop, moderate and manage the MIG LinkedIn group, a programme of webinars and other on-line communications to facilitate discussion amongst members (10%)

To coordinate production of selected research documents including the Proposals for Research document, the Research Programme, and the 'Needs of industry' document', as well as the annual voting process for Member Funded Research (10%)

To oversee and develop the content of the MIGs section of the website (5%)

To manage member enquires regarding the MIG system and participation in it by members (5%)

To support the Head of Marketing and Communications and Campaigns Manager in the promotion of the outputs of the Member Funded Research (MFR) Programme (10%)

Qualifications, skills and experience

Preferably a degree in a relevant subject and a broad understanding of the science and technology underpinning the production of food and drink (or demonstrable ability to build this knowledge).

A broad understanding of the food and drink supply chain and the challenges it faces.

A can-do, friendly, diplomatic and enthusiastic attitude.

Very strong organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail.

An ability to identify new approaches to exploiting our skills, knowledge and facilities to develop our business.

Evidence of strong verbal communications skills - with the ability to interact well with colleagues, clients and collaborators at all levels of business, from junior recruits to board level, in 'committee' and more general situations.

Evidence of strong written communications skills - with the ability to express technical and commercial information cogently and with language tailored to specific audiences (e.g. specialist, non-technical).

A good client-facing attitude with the ability to interact well with members and build strong business relationships.

An ability to lead initiatives and motivate colleagues and peers to help deliver against the strategic plans and objectives of the MIG system.

Sound commercial awareness with the ability to recognise business development opportunities.
