Field Service Engineer - Comms in Leicestershire
Our client is a leader in the development, manufacture and supply of a range of scientific measurement and control instrumentation for use in a variety of sectors such as meteorology, water, environmental, energy, infrastructure and gas monitoring. Due to continued strong growth they now require an experienced Field Service Engineer to provide high quality, on-site, environmental measurement systems & sensor installation and maintenance for a variety of customers and stakeholders. Working with both the sales and delivery team, you will organise and deliver on-site installation and scheduled maintenance visits for equipment installed at customers’ premises and remote locations in the UK and occasionally in Europe. It is expected that you will be working out of the office and on-site for 60% of your time and that you will need to travel away from home up to 70 nights a year.
Perform on-site maintenance and fault diagnosis for environmental monitoring systems and sensors.
Perform on-site installation of equipment, including: - tower erection, bracket assembly, wiring (including armoured cable termination), working with conduit (both underground and surface mounted) and occasionally small scales civils work for pole\ cabinet installations.
Perform installation services for dataloggers, software, communication methods and protocols.
Troubleshoot a variety of communications methods and protocols such as ethernet, serial, cellular and radio.
Build equipment according to instructions, follow installation notes and read and interpret wiring diagrams.
Train end users to a level where they can operate and\or identify and interpret data from a sensor or system.
Communicate with customers in a professional manner and identify future business opportunities, whilst at the customer’s site.
Liaison with the Technical Support team and customers in order to ensure each on-site visit is effectively planned and prepared for in advance.
Work solo in all weathers, all seasons and on occasion in remote locations.
Work confidently and safely at height.
Engineering or Science based qualification to HND or above.
Level 3 NVQ qualification in Electrical Installations or Installing Electrotechnical Systems & Equipment.
A technical background and experience in working with instrumentation and communication and networking protocols.
Pragmatic and methodical approach to fault identification and resolution. Troubleshooting of communications systems would be a distinct advantage.
Experience of working on-site at airports or airfields desirable.
Able to work at heights.
Hold a full clean UK driving license – essential.
Experience of low voltage electrical installations or general electrical installations desirable.
