Trainee Field Engineer in Cambridgeshire

Our client has a new position in the company which is being created to help support our planned growth. Whilst this person will initially spend most of their time in our repair shop, once trained they will be spending some of their time at customer sites. The person will take on responsibility for the calibration and maintenance where there are multiple units on a single customer site. The amount of time spent on customer sites will vary greatly from week to week and it is expected that the person will spend an increasing number of days away from home.

Key Tasks (technical)

  • Carry out calibrations, repairs and testing of Company and third party equipment at the repair shop in Cambridge.
  • Attend sites across the United Kingdom to carry out PME and calibrations on Company and third party equipment.
  • Attend sites across the United Kingdom to carry our repairs on Company and third party equipment.
  • Attend meetings / training at head office or at other sites as required around the world.
  • Allow sales and other employees to attend any site with you.
  • Support the sales team with the generation of new business opportunities.
  • Provide telephone / remote support to customers as required.

Key Tasks (other)

  • Organise site visits by liaising directly with customers.
  • Complete and issue all required calibration certificates in a timely manner.
  • Complete all paperwork properly and in a timely and manner including the required administration activities on the business systems including SAP and Coresuite. This should include the timely closing of all jobs.
  • Respond to any Company or customer communication quickly and effectively.
  • Review what we do and how we do it so as to remove non value adding tasks. Identify any processes or tasks that could be improved with better systems or training etc.
  • Suggest and implement ways in which we can improve our overall customer service.

Knowledge/Experience

  • The person must have the ability to develop into a field engineer
  • The person should have ability / experience of working on customer premises
  • The person should have experience of electro - mechanical equipment
  • The person should have software application experience
  • Previous experience of laboratory equipment is an advantage
  • ISO 17025 or UKAS accreditation experience would be an advantage
  • Knowledge or experience in temperature mapping and calibration would be an advantage

  • Excellent organizational and customer skills
  • Good IT skills
  • Attention to detail
  • The person must be able to work on their own and be trusted to do the job effectively
  • The person must be willing to spend regular time away from home
  • The person must be willing to travel long distances across the United Kingdom
  • Good spoken and written English
  • The person should have a clean driving licence
  • The person must a flexible working approach
