Product Development Engineer - Medical Devices in Bedfordshire

Product Development Engineers investigate and manage the introduction of new products and processing or manufacturing equipment. They also ensure that existing products manufactured by the company are produced in the most efficient and effective way by organising and introducing continuous manufacturing and business improvement techniques. This may involve improved methods of working, new or modifications to processing equipment. 


The work involves constant examination of existing manufacturing methods in order to identify improvements and to solve technical or processing problems as they arise, usually through a team of process technicians or machine setters. Considerable liaison with existing and new customers is necessary to retain and win new business. Project managing the introduction of new business and the necessary equipment and technology required for manufacturing is also necessary.

 

Often the work will be conducted in teams from the R&D, Quality and Operations departments or in close co-operation with a customer’s development team.

 

Work with customers, designers and material suppliers to develop products, materials, agree specifications and solve technical problems

Assist securing new business by providing prototypes and solutions to customer needs

Manage elements of the new product development cycle

Preparation of validation protocols

Writing and conducting analysis on technical reports

Work in development teams to introduce new materials, products and supervision of process trials and validations

Advise on the suitability of which materials to use in the manufacture of the product

Design tooling

Develop existing and novel manufacturing processes

Essential experience:

Must have experience in the medical device field with process development, test methods development, protocol and report writing, design verification and experience presenting technical concepts.

Must have demonstrated capabilities in developing, writing, and executing design validation protocols and reports.

Demonstrated application of statistical methodologies.

Experience in Medical Devices and working within FDA/ISO Quality System Requirements.

Would consider different Engineering disciplines (mechanical, chemical, biomedical) for the position.

Experience in product costing.

Essential qualifications:

Technical/Scientific Degree level qualification in life science subject, or other related fields
