Analytical Chemist- Maintenance/Troubleshooting in London area

Job purpose:

Our client is looking for analytical chemists with experience of GC-MS, GC-QQQ, HPLC and/or LC-MS instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. Some method development, validation and peer review experience is also ideal. You will contribute to the success of the forensic toxicology department by ensuring that analyses of casework items are carried out in a timely manner to quality standards and to ensure that instruments are available and suitably checked and maintained.

Some weekend work required (1 in 4 with time of in lieu)

Key accountabilities:

  • Analysis of casework samples using GC-FID, GC-MS, GC-QQQ, LC and LC-MS, and other casework support for reporting officers as required.
  • Process and peer review analytical data to quality standards.
  • Routine maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation. 
  • Carry out small method improvement and development projects, under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Carry out method validation studies, under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Assist with training as required.

Required knowledge:

  • Relevant Chemistry based degree.
  • Previous experience in sample preparation techniques e.g. L/L, SPE.
  • Previous experience in GC-MS, GC-QQQ or LC-MS using Chemstation, Masshunter or Analyst software.
  • Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
  • Some method development and validation experience.
  • Must have minimum 3 years continuous residency in the UK as this role requires security clearance.
