| Research Manager – Horticulture Field Trials, Suffolk Our client is a leading manufacturer and supplier of brand-leading fertilizers, growing media, lawn/turf products and controls products for the consumer garden care market. They are also a major player in the Professional horticulture, turf and amenity market in Europe. At their R&D facility near Ipswich, extensive research is carried out into new product development and existing product support and they wish to recruit a Manager for this establishment. The post involves the management of a busy horticultural field station carrying out field trials to internationally-accepted standards to establish product performance for new formulations, extend claims or provide supplementary information on existing products. There are 9 permanent staff, with up to 5 additional seasonal workers depending on workload and an annual budget of around £200K, excluding salaries. In addition to the management responsibilities, the candidate will also be an expert biologist and expected to maintain a technical overview on all the trials and advise on techniques and innovations. Candidates should have a PhD in a biological discipline with a strong interest in horticulture, and practical horticultural experience is very desirable. They should also have several years of management experience, preferably in an R&D / horticulture / field trials environment and have good organisational skills. Candidates must also be excellent communicators. The site frequently hosts visits from important customers and the Manager will need to promote the facility in an enthusiastic and positive way.
